Curriculum Improvements

  • 3 new Engineering Technology AAS degree programs; 1 new AAS degree programs and 3 new certificates; 12 credit and non-credit courses designed and/or updated
  • Electronics Curriculum under development; course 1 offered fall 2009, course 2 offered during spring 2010; all 4 courses expected to be offered by fall 2010
  • 26 Articulation agreements with 9 different local school systems and 171 credits awarded during the 2008-2009 school year

Enrollment

  • Enrolled 2097 students in credit programs and 1085 students in non-credit programs.

Ethnic & Gender Diversity

  • Female enrollment is still low in these non-traditional (manufacturing and engineering) areas (13%). 
  • Caucasian – 60%, African American – 18%; Other minorities – 22%

Camps, Competitions & Workshops

  • Hosted, assisted with or judged FIRST and Vex Robotics and SkillsUSA competitions (more than1000 participants)
  • UMES Summer Camp (27 participants) explored a variety of engineering and related activities including a trip to Wallops Flight Facility

Industry Partnerships

  • Active partnership with the Regional Manufacturing Institute (RMI) on a variety of initiatives—Inside Series; Harnessing the Power of Green; What’s next RMI.
  • New partnership formed—Maryland Manufacturing Partnership includes RMI, World Class Consortium, and UMCP Manufacturing Extension Program
  • Hosted or attended 8 Industry advisory meetings  (113 participants)
  • Visited or met with more than 20 different companies

Professional Development

  • Hosted or attended 25 professional development activities (899 participants)
  • Instituted Learning Project Activity which impacted 97 instructors and 370 students during its first year of operation.

Outreach and Recruitment

  • Partner college recruitment and outreach activities touched more than 2,000 students
  • More than 300 students visited the partner college programs
  • Provided personal advisement to more than 300 students
  • Revised the TIME Center Website (http://www.time-center.org) which now offers a variety of resources for students, instructors, and industry personnel
  • Completed manufacturing study with 70 regional manufacturing entities participating
  • Completed marketing plan in conjunction with MBRT and SNS marketing

Dissemination Activities

  • Participated in 19 conferences, meetings and events, with Center staff making 13 presentations (423 participants) and hosting exhibit booths at 6 events (1798 visitors).

Strategic Partnerships

  • MBRT added speakers from manufacturing and engineering and highlighted these areas in their Be What I Want to Be magazine and website
  • WWW.bewhatiwanttobe.com had over  11, 220 student views of the manufacturing site and over 17,115 student views of the aerospace site; approximately 38% of students declared they were interested in a STEM career
  • ACE Mentoring project in cooperation with Bechtel Corporation  registered 70 students (65 completed)
  • Hosted the Mid-Atlantic Regional Energy Forum in conjunction with ATEEC
  • Began partnership meetings with PGAMA (Printing and Graphics Association-Mid Atlantic)
  • Partnered with Johns Hopkins University for Engineering Innovation 2009- a summer course for CCBC students
